Why I started woodworking

Why I started woodworking

2 minute read

For the last fifteen years of my life I was a technician for a phone company.  I enjoyed my work but it's not what I wanted to do for the next thirty years of my life.  But like many other people in this world, we do jobs just to feed our family and put a roof over our head.  In May of 2021, after working through the pandemic, seven hundred technicians were told they were being laid off.  I was one of those technicians. At first, I was in panic mode and didn't know what I was going to do.  After I calmed down, I figured I would give building my own wood working business a try.  I've been wood working for many years making projects around the house for the family.  I talked my wife into letting me turn the garage into a shop and got to work building my workshop.  Every time I built something new I felt my skills getting better and better.  I started making projects for family at cost just to get more practice.  I started my Facebook and Instagram page (Ask Alex Wood Worx) and then recently introduced my Shopify website (www.askalexww.com).  Its been a great experience starting my business and I'm constantly learning new things about how to run a business.   But the greatest parts of woodworking is making things for people knowing that they will be using them for many years to come, and the excitement people get from getting their customized item.   I take great pride in making quality products that will last for many years and are made by hand in the U.S.A.  If you're looking for quality handmade items that are made in the U.S.A., please reach out to me so we can make your vision or gift a reality.
